Referring peragraph 11 of your desprteh No. 280 of
the 8th. of Dreember last, I have the honour to bring to your
notice the cases of Ifr. C.H.Gale, letely Chicf Draughtsmen í” th
Public Works Department and appointed. Assistent Engineer under
authority of your derp tch No.70 of the 18th, ultimo, and Mr.
A.H.Hollingsworth whose appointment as Assistant. Engineer on the
permanent establishment of the reme Department after three years
servior on the temporary staff was approved in your despatcli
No. 292 of the 20th. of December last.
Under your despatch referred to their salaries have
been increased from $2,328 per emu to $2,400 rising to 23,000,
end in view of the feet that, I.Gale has over 9 years service
in the Public Works Department, and Mr.Hollingsworth over three
years and that both officers have drain salary at the rate of $2328
since their first appointments in the Colony, I beg to suggert
that the former be regarded as hrving earned his maximum salary under the new scale (viz: $5000) end the latter his first incre- ment (viz $2,700) or from the let. of January in this year.
Both are capable and deserving officers end it seems
but fair that they should be placed on a better footing than
